I finally got around to editing some of the photos from this shoot. There’s a been a very focused selection process for these pictures because I was really looking for a specific shot. The ones I’ve displayed here are just a small cross section of what I’ve picked out so far. What I loved about this shoot is the amazing variety that Medina gave me with each shot, which in turn made picking out the right ones a bit tricky. Over the last little while too I’ve been shooting so much that the work I’ve done has had to be in short shifts. It’s a busy life this time of year between shoots.
This, to me, captures the mood well. The darkness in her eyes draws me in while at the same time making you guess about her feeling. The position of her hand on her heart with the snake intertwined on her fingers suggest a suborbital type of relation, a low underling idea of a visceral, carnal connection.
Feel free to add you thoughts, I’m not shy to feedback.
Again this has some of the same themes but I wanted to give them more negative space. The black seems to swallow them both up. Or maybe she’s coming from it?
Medina’s eye contact and the position that the snake has decided to take seems kind of defensive. As if the snake would be her protector and is ready to pounce on any threat. The black is there to illustrate the mood. Lighting in these photos was accomplished really simply, with a 40 Degree grid through a 24×36″ softbox, powered by my Norman LH500 Light heads; positioned directly over head, camera right.
There’s a fair amount of touch up in this photo, not that you can tell. Describing my style in photoshop, I would definately call it “Utilitarian” as I wish to preserve the qualities of the light the lens and the camera. I don’t want to remove anything from reality as though I can make things prettier with software, I think beauty is already there within (everyone). As such only subtle changes are needed.
More on…
This weekend I did TWO engagement shoots, and was in full time Dad mode with my kids. We even had time for a birthday party at a friends place. On Saturday in Alexander Circle (approx 131 street and 104 ave?) I took some fun shots with Latitia and Justin.
These two have some wicked energy and are over the top in love for each other and aren’t shy about it. It’s freekin awesome!
More to come in the nearish future.
